My night portrait sessions are carefully created silhouettes and environmental portraits photographed after dark, using the night sky and surrounding landscape as an integral part of the image.

The result is a dramatic, atmospheric photograph that captures a sense of scale, place and connection beneath the stars.

A different kind of portrait

These aren't traditional portrait sessions.

There are no studio backdrops, forced poses or brightly lit faces. Instead, we'll use darkness, subtle lighting, silhouettes and the surrounding environment to create something more artistic and cinematic.

You might be standing beneath the Milky Way, beside a quiet lake, on a rocky shoreline or somewhere with a landscape that adds to the story.

The goal is to create an image that feels like you are part of the night sky, rather than simply photographing you in front of it.

How it works

Each session is planned carefully around the location and night sky conditions.

Before your session, we'll discuss the type of image you're looking to create and choose a location that suits the vision. I'll guide you through positioning and movement during the shoot so that we can create the silhouette and composition we're after.

Sessions are generally photographed well after sunset and may involve some waiting for the right darkness and sky conditions.

Investment

Night portrait sessions begin at $950 + HST.

Because every session is individually planned, pricing may vary depending on location, travel and the scope of the session.
